“No matter where you are from, we’re glad you’re our neighbor”
The signs are in 3 languages –Spanish, English, Arabic. Refugee welcoming yard signs for only $10 each and provided by the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, partners with the International Rescue Committee. They use the proceeds to help refugees settling in the Wichita area with emergency housing and basic items. The church is one of the first known historic peace churches in this region.
The Reverends Tom and Lois Harder “definitely consider it part of our mission to advocate for the immigrant, for the alien,” Harder said. “The Bible calls us over and over again, both Old Testament and New Testament, to care for those who are otherwise being oppressed or downtrodden or disadvantaged in any way.”
