REFUGEE MENTOR TRAINING – JULY 9 – More information

This is the last article in a series explaining when and how Mission Council began to question what it means to “welcome” refugees and immigrants, given the national narrative and what a combined task group from Giving & Mercy and Faith Sharing discovered when investigating local and Disciples resources.  The Disciples Home Missions has an active Refugee and Immigration Ministries (RIM).

Many resources are available at https://www.discipleshomemissions.org/missions-advocacy/refugee-immigration-ministries/ and you can sign up for RIM WRAP for regular updates via email or Facebook of current news/happenings. Cheryl has been in touch with Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley-Rea, Executive Director of RIM, who promises to be a wonderful resource for whatever direction we might take as a congregation in regard to developing a relationship with refugees in Wichita.

REMEMBER: Debra Lee from Episcopal Migration Ministries will provide a mentor training for those interested in working with and advocating for legal immigrants and refugees after worship on July 9.  The training includes cultural orientation, healthy boundaries, helping vs. rescuing, mentor etiquette and resources.  The training will take about 1½ hours and will be held in the Grace Room.  From there we will expand the conversation about what it means to “welcome” refugees and immigrants.

Please bring a sack lunch to enjoy while you learn.  Beverages provided.
