PVCC will host an evening with the Wichita Peace and Justice Center on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. We learn about the Peace and Justice Center trip last November to Fort Benning, Georgia, to protest the School of the Americans (SOA). The information and links below will introduce you to SOA. It is not an “easy” read. If you are able to help host this event or wish to discuss it with our Interim Pastor, please let David Hansen know. Thank you.
Nashua Faces 6 Months in Prison…
Update: Nashua’s Trial Scheduled for March 2013
On Wednesday morning, January 9, Nashua Chantal appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Stephen Hyles, to face charges of misdemeanor trespass. His charges stem from his November 18, 2012, nonviolent action of crossing over the fence at Fort Benning to protest the continued existence of the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC).
After entering a plea of not guilty, the prosecution – led by Captain West – agreed to go to trial in March. Nashua is content and ready to speak truth to power. Following his arraignment, he said: “I feel confident to be together in solidarity with so many supporters as I wait to go to trial in March.”
As Nashua faces 6 months in federal prison for his act of protest, we remember that not one person responsible for the use of the SOA torture manuals or for teaching the human rights abusers and torturers has faced justice. Last month, 4 SOA graduates were among 8 Chilean officers charged with the murder of Chilean singer and activist Victor Jara.
We will not stop! It’s time once again to take our message of hope and justice to Congress this April in Washington DC.
