Healthcare professionals tell us that the governor’s decision to not expand Medicare in Kansas will result in the deaths of perhaps as many as 330 Kansans in 2014 because they fall into the gap. This gap eliminates affordable healthcare coverage for individuals who should qualify for Medicaid but they make too much income for Medicaid but not enough income to receive a tax credit. To call attention to this outrageous situation faith leaders, healthcare professionals, social workers, members of the Kansas legislature and concerned citizens are gathering on Saturday, October 18th at 7 p.m. in front of the downtown Warren Theater to participate in a “Death Count Vigil.” More information about opt-out states is available at hppt://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-release/Medicaid-expansion-lower-mortality/.
