Lorrie Beck’s Peace Corps friend, Deb Saat, is making a documentary about changes “middle class” Americans have seen – financially & socially – over the past years. Deb is looking for folks to interview. She and her crew will be in Wichita on January 13 & 14, 2016. If you’re interested in chatting with Deb, please contact her directly (917-523-2733 or at dsaat@nyc.rr.com), or you can let Lorrie Beck know that you’d be interested in being interviewed and she’ll contact Deb.
Below is a list of questions they’ll be asking. Overall, they want to hear about what you’ve experienced and witnessed over the years pertaining to the middle class – financially and socially. Questions 1 – 4 are specifically for families, and questions 5 – 7 are general questions. They don’t expect you to answer all the questions – whichever you are comfortable answering.
- What changes have you and your family members experienced over the past few years? 10 years? 20 years? Etc? Give some specific examples, such as the cost of housing, college/tuition, change in tax benefits, etc.
- What changes, if any, have you seen in your neighborhood? Town/city?
- What changes have you noticed in the media over the years regarding the overall status of America’s Middle Class?
- Why do you think the state of America’s Middle Class matters? Why is it important? Or is it?
- How does the financial “health” of the Middle Class affect everyone – including the poor and the top 1%?
- What do you think is the root of the downhill trend?
- What do you think we can do as individuals and/or a community to rectify this downhill trend of the Middle Class?
- What are some resources for helping America’s Middle Class?
Again, thank you for your participation. The final film will be made available, free-of-charge to schools, colleges and community organizations.
