IN THE NEWS! Call to Action – Dreamers Act

Call to Action – Dreamers Act
On September 5, 2017, President Trump essentially ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This program protected nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children from deportation and granted them the right to work legally. These are the “DREAMers” you have heard about: children whose parents brought them to the U.S. for a better life. Under DACA, children brought to the U.S. without proper authorization and who met certain criteria were eligible for renewable two-year permits allowing them to stay in the country and go to school or work. Now, under the Trump administration, more than 100 Dreamers lose their DACA protection each day Congress delays acting on the Dream Act from now until March 5, 2018, the deadline imposed by President Trump for the program to expire.

These young people are now being used as political pawns in the immigration showdown.

The Poor People’s Campaign supports legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for those immigrants who came to the country before the age of 16 without funding attachments for a border wall, detention centers, interior enforcement agencies or the E-verify program. This is called a “clean” Dreamers Act – no attachments.

Prayer is great; action is what we are called to do. Please contact our Kansas Representative (Ron Estes) and Senators (Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts). And, contact Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and ask them to ACT NOW.

Dear Sen. Schumer,
Please act now on DACA. No ban…No wall… a Clean DREAM Act.
~800,000 wonderful lives are being used as political pawns and that is not what I expect from my government or my country.
Sincerely,
