DAVID’S DIARY

I love my Disciples of Christ calendar. It goes well beyond the basics of dates and days of the month. I did not know that May 5th was “Friendship Day,” or that May 13 was “International Migratory Bird Day.” May 19th is “Bike to Work Day.” The 21st is “Mental Health Sunday,” and the 22nd is “International Day for Biodiversity,” as well as being “Victoria Day” in Canada. May 29th is “Memorial Day,” and the last day of the month is “Asian-Pacific American Heritage Day.”

Notes in the calendar also remind me that May is Older Americans Month. We celebrated Mother’s Day/Women’s Day on the 14th.

Calendars do so much more than mark the passage of time. They are invitations to recognize the uniqueness of each day, and to rejoice in the diversity of life.

So, Happy May, my friends.
