The words “hospitable, “hospital,” and “hospitality” are all related for a good reason. When you step into a hospital today, you are entering an institution that began in the Church, because the assumption was that in the Church you would find welcome and healing.
Nuns were the first nurses, and while they were not as adept and trained scientifically as today’s Registered Nurses, they dispensed the one thing most needed: loving and therapeutic concern.
Doctors will tell you that for healing of any kind to occur, patients must have a positive attitude best fostered by faithful love. Without that, even the best scientific approach will not work as well. Faith that one will get better is an essential element of healing.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Carolyn
