We have launched our study of the Gospel of John, using John Shelby Spong’s The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic as our guide. If you were not able to attend the first session, or do not have a copy of Bishop Spong’s book, do not fear, there is a place at the table for you. This week we will delve deeper into the origins of Jewish mysticism and why the writers of the fourth gospel turned to this tradition. Understanding this background will help us understand the importance of the call of Nathaniel (John 1:43-51) and the wedding at Cana (John 2:11).
Blessings, David
