Sunday, January 22, we will have our annual Spirit Fest worship service.
During this time we make our individual commitments to serve the church through a spirit team. Spirit teams are responsible for planning worship, events, and mission. Spirit teams are:
Hospitality: takes care of our celebrations such as weddings and baby showers, graduate recognition, and other special events to recognize rites of passage for members; provides funeral dinners as requested; and coordinates celebrations including pot-luck dinners; coordinate Agape and Thanksgiving Feasts, Special Christmas Events, Mardi Gras, Easter Breakfast, Mother’s Day Tea, Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast, Fall Fling, etc.
Giving and Mercy: coordinates all outreach giving such as coordinating special offerings: Week of Compassion, Easter, Pentecost, Reconciliation, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; coordinates all Outreach Projects; and Raise funds for emergency assistance from agencies and individuals.
Pastoring and Discernment: takes care of our members through hospital, home, and nursing home visitation and cover pastoral care when minister is gone. They send cards to shut-ins, sick, hospitalized, and those absent from worship; Record prayers on Sunday morning and coordinate prayer list and “life of the congregation” sections of the newsletter; provide communion to shut-ins and offer meals or other assistance for ill & shut-in members.
Skilled Crafts: takes care of our building by providing building maintenance and upkeep such as electrical, plumbing, and roofing, etc. They arrange for mowing, watering, landscaping and coordinate annual building inspections; provide audio/visual operation, repair & computer maintenance; and Maintain records and operating manuals and keep inventory building & contents.
Faith Sharing and Public Relations: takes care of our prospective members, encourages member involvement in Disciples events, and promotes the church in the community. They promote and encourage congregation to be involved in Disciples events such as workshops and district, Regional and General Assemblies; Advertise for church events; i.e. public service ads, liaison with religion writers, contacts with other congregations.
Teaching, Wisdom, Knowledge (TWK): takes care of educating the members through recruiting adult and children’s Sunday school teachers and order curriculum, serve as teachers; planning additional education events and opportunities; and coordinate with Youth Leaders to provide education and social activities for youth.
Worship, Artistry, and Music (WAM): take care of our Sunday morning services; coordinate and change seasonal decorations, as well as design, make, or purchase banners and other decoration; arrange for pulpit supply when minister is away; seek ways to involve children in worship; and coordinate A/V experiences for worship.
Management and Service:provides support for the church such as help in the office and cover office when Office Manager is gone;Coordinate Sunday morning volunteers; and purchase supplies for office, kitchen, and communion. They create and maintain a calling tree; open and close building on Sundays, & other events such as weddings and funerals; take attendance on Sunday mornings; coordinate nursery as needed for church events; oversee rentals and building usage; and video tape & photograph special events for Church Historian.
Following worship we will move to the Grace Room for a Pot Luck Dinner. Remember to bring your own table service. Drinks will be furnished by Hospitality.
