WHAT’S HAPPENING: UPDATES FROM YOUR INTERIM PASTOR

I want to use this Communicator to share with you some updates that I shared with the Mission Council last Sunday.

The Campus Ministry at WSU is going through a time of transition. Several ministers in Wichita are working together to create a new ministerial team. I will be part of this new team and a member of the new campus ministry board of directors.  We are still developing plans for this ministry but it does present an excellent opportunity to partner with other congregations, and for PVCC to have a presence on the campus.

PVCC is blessed with a number of young adults. There is interest in starting a young adult group in the church. Amanda Martin will help coordinate this exciting ministry. Special thanks goes out to Katie Davidson for her enthusiasm.

PVCC will receive new members on June 30th.  We look forward to having Mike Ryer and Adele Stark, Katie Davidson, Shelby Pate and Karen Geyer become part of the PVCC community. If you are interested in becoming a member please let David know.

PVCC hosted a training workshop for community organizing. The workshop shop was held June 7-8 and was led by staff from Seed House and Sunflower Community Action. Natalie Byington and I attended from PVCC.

The Mission Council is discussing the possibility of PVCC participating in a Kansas Leadership Center program called “Leadership and Faith Transforming Communities.” We will learn more details in the coming weeks. Our participation would represent a significant commitment of time on the part of members who participate. I am planning to attend an introductory workshop the first week of August to learn more.

Some members of PVCC are discussing a trip the weekend of November 22-23 to join thousands of others from around the country in a vigil outside the gates of the School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia.  It would be fantastic to have a PVCC delegation.  Look for more information elsewhere in this issue and in future issues of the Communicator.

I want to extend a personal thank you to Lynette Vignatelli and members of the Hospitality Spirit Team for all the wonderful meals they have provided in the last month as we have celebrated graduations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and this Sunday our Build-A-Burger bash.

I also want to thank Carmen Bell and Gaye Clements for their work in the Bettye Tumlinson Memorial Garden. They have been volunteering time to weed and plant new grass. If you have not visited the garden lately you will enjoy it this weekend.

Let me also thank Monty Fuller and the 6 other members of PVCC who worked at the Lord’s Dinner in June. If you would like to participate in this ministry please let Monty Fuller, Bill Delaney or myself know and we will help you get connected.

And, thank you to members and friends of PVCC who provided cookies and attended the celebration of Connie Dietz’s retirement from the Wichita School Board. It was a wonderful celebration. Thank you, Connie, for your leadership and years of service to our community as a faithful voice for children and educators.

Peace, David Hansen
