UPDATE FROM REFUGEE TASK GROUP

The refugee task group has been actively pursuing ways to be “in relationship” with our refugee neighbors per the congregation’s wishes. The local organizations (Episcopal Migration Ministries and International Rescue Committee) could not help us make direct contact with our neighbors because they do not keep records of addresses. Our search eventually led us to USD 259 where we had a conversation about hosting ESOL classes two nights a week beginning in January. Those talks were exciting; however, that opportunity has been put on hold until next fall due to funding issues. At this time we are awaiting more information from USD 259 regarding hosting family fun night(s) with refugee families in conjunction with Gammon Elementary. We will keep you posted.
