REPORT OF WSU SEMINAR

WSU Sponsored a Human Sexuality Seminar on Friday, March 7, and the Campus Ministry Ecumenical Council, of which PVCC is a member, sponsored a round table discussion within the seminar.  The topic of the round table was Religious Freedom, Sexuality and Me: Where do I fit in?  The round table was hosted by Mike Ryer and Adele Stark of PVCC and the round table subject matter experts were Ashe Wickell (Transgender), Mitch Diemer (Church Pastor), Sally Morse(P-FLAG) and Liz Hamor (GLSEN). The conversation was wide ranging and touched on several areas of interest including: building alliances within a community of faith for LGTG members; managing the relation between a faith community and the mother church to foster and ensure an open and accepting environment for all people; working within the larger community to build opportunities for dialogue and reduction of polarization between viewpoints; and building a sense of “being there” within the faith community for its “other and LGTG” members within the political and larger community.

Campus Ministries is entertaining other activities to happen at WSU and these will be announced when firm dates are established.  One planned event is a Cultural Dinner worked in conjunction with the WSU Multi-Cultural Office.  PVCC may choose to select a particular cultural group and host a dinner for them in the near future.  Besides the chance to eat some good home cooking, the students can spend a time of fellowship with the PVCC faith community and discuss areas of interest between both parties.
