Every once in a while, it’s good to remind everyone about PVCC’s recurring volunteer night at the Lord’s Diner in downtown Wichita. If you’re not familiar with the Lord’s Diner, it’s a place where anyone can get a meal, no questions asked. That makes it especially important for the poor and homeless in our community, who often find it really hard to get a good meal. It is run by the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, but many other churches and volunteer groups help staff it on a rotating basis. PVCC is scheduled to help serve the meal on the 3rd Saturday of each month. The shift starts at 5:15pm, and runs until about 7:45pm. We usually have 6-10 people from PVCC who participate, and we’re always looking for more. Other groups also work that night, since it requires about 30-40 people for a complete staff. The only requirement to participate is that you must attend a training class to obtain a Food Handlers Card from the Health Department. It’s free, and easy, and the card is valid for 5 years, so you don’t have to renew very often. If you’d like to join us, please contact Monty Fuller 785-792-6361 or Bill Delaney 706-4902 and we’ll gladly give you more details. This is a beautiful ministry that fills a true need in our community; you will definitely feel the joy that comes from helping people who need it and appreciate it!
