HIGHLIGHTS FROM AMANDA

1) If your family is still looking for labor day weekend plans there will be a family camp at Tawakoni. Contact Amanda for details.

2) A busy summer camp season has come to a close at Tawakoni. Outdoor ministries is one of the most important parts of faith development, so it is a great joy for us to have 8 youth from PVCC attend 13 camps this summer–what a blessing! With it being such an important faith-building opportunity in our young people’s spiritual journey our support, financial and otherwise, is key. We did a great job at our April fundraiser and will have another this fall to keep that momentum going!

Our campers and the camps they attended: Michael (high school, wilderness), Tiffany (high school, wilderness, music), Mack (equestrian, middle school), Alex (equestrian), DeAsia (equestrian, junior), Lauryn (equestrian), Carrie (primary) and Leila (pee wee). Quinn also served as a counselor at several camps, so when you see her make sure to say thank you for her service to our region’s youth.

3) Last week we had camp friendship, which is a camp where our region’s outdoor ministries program partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide a camp experience, free of charge, to the youth in the BBBS program. In meeting with a case worker to provide a recap of the camp I learned that there are 6,000 kids registered in the Kansas BBBS program, and of those 6,000 children 4,000 are still waiting to be matched with a big brother or big sister. We can help! There are a variety of programs, with differing time commitments; one Sally mentioned in church is simply going to eat lunch with a child once a week. Below is a link that will show you the different programs and describe the basics of each. I hope you will consider this opportunity to be a mentor for a child in need of support, and also pass it on to friends so that we can raise awareness in the community. Please let me know if you have any questions.
