Last Sunday, my sermon focused on 8th day people. The eighth day is understood as the 1st day of God’s new creation. The lectionary reading told of Jesus’ baptism. In some traditions the baptismal fount has eight sides. The symbolism of eight sides is meant to convey the idea that when we come up out of the water of baptism we are, in Paul’s words, part of God’s new creation. This Sunday, January 19th, we will honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was an 8th day person. The worship service is built around his sermon “Our God is Able.”
Blessings, David
