Julie Lane, Michael Ryer and I met on the WSU campus recently to share some ideas for PVCC’s participation in the ecumenical campus ministry that is taking shape. The following is a summary of Mike’s highlights from the campus ministry board meeting. (1) The campus ministry (CM) brand is “Find your path, share your journey.” There is an opportunity for those interested to help staff a table in the student union and help students find a church home or discuss any topic on they may wish to bring up. Time and hours are totally flexible. (2) work within the university structure to have CM host significant panel discussions and speakers on campus on relevant social issues. (3) Join with faculty and departments on campus to host discussions on important topics, offering a faith perspective. (4) Involve campus and community groups and organizations that can help us bring issues to the public. (5) work through international student bodies to host programs in local churches like PVCC. Possible topics included: the need for adequate public transportation; food desserts in Wichita; homelessness; children who are homeless; unemployment; human trafficking; juvenile injustice; School of America Watch.
