The ever popular Alternative Gift Market will be held on Saturday, November 14 at East Heights United Methodist Church – new market location – 4407 E. Douglas Ave – from 10 am – 4 pm. Please make plans now to help staff the PVCC booth and/or visit to do all your holiday shopping!
We will be creating ornaments for the following two projects:
- Project #2: Vegetable Gardens for Families (Tanzania)
Plant a garden that helps mothers feed and support their children.
Plants with Purpose works primarily with women by teaching mothers how to garden organically. As their gardens begin to flourish, family nutrition improves and surplus vegetables are sold at market.
- Project #8: Books for School Libraries (Ethiopia)
Give the gift of reading to rural children.
Ethiopia Reads provides books to horse-back and traditional libraries that reach children in the most rural areas. With the help of local communities, Ethiopia Reads has built, supplied, and staffed 10 schools and 72 libraries throughout the country.
We already have 100 seed packets (thanks, Nora!) that will need to be made into ornaments for Project # 2, and we have an idea for making small mini-books for Project # 8.
If you’re able to staff the booth for a short 2-hour shift on November 14, please contact Lorrie Beck. Shift times: 10 am – 12 noon; 12 noon – 2 pm; 2 – 4 pm.
