In 2025 PVCC applied, and was awarded, a grant for a transformational ministries with the Kansas Region: “I am thrilled to be working with a congregation who is looking to rebuild who they are as we transform the be the beloved community together.”

She has also served in Dallas at Midway Hills Christian Church, and congregations in Kansas City metro (Overland Park and Raymore) and in Southeast Kansas (Girard).

Laurie’s past work includes National Coordinator of the New Sanctuary Movement, Immigration Coordinator for the United Methodist Church (General Board of Church and Society), and Interfaith Coordinator for the Presbyterian Church USA.

In 2009, Laurie was named Heartland Presbytery’s Peacemaker of the year; in 2015 honored by Kansas City Church Women United as Humanitarian of the Year. She graduated from Saint Paul School of Theology, Masters of Divinity. She founded in 2008 (until 2023), Immigrant Justice Advocacy Movement a faith-based “Sanctuary” organization offering radical hospitality to immigrants.

Laurie is a certified Spiritual Director from Souljourners (Benedictine Sisters) and certified community organizer with Gamaliel and Midwest Academy.

“My personal journey and passion for impacting social justice issues started more than three decades ago on my first service trip to the Yucatan Peninsula where relationships with the people of the Yucatan pulled at my heart and mind. For me, the call to seek justice is deeply rooted in my relationships, especially the most impacted persons. “

The motivation for my work is not only the beloved community, but because of my own young adult children Ben and Bonnie. My desire to answer the call to seek justice with ALL, and realize that injustice to one of us is an injustice for all of us.
