On Palm Sunday Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a borrowed donkey. It fits a gospel pattern of transformative moments. A Samaritan woman comes to the well for water and goes home a preacher. A child breaks into the inner circle of discipleship and is welcomed. Tax collectors and debtors sit at the table together and share a common meal, thereby creating a new community. It is as if the gospel writers would have us believe that God is present in every moment of our lives and, therefore, our lives do not need to be limited by the constraints of the past or the liabilities of the present. We must deal with the circumstances of our life, but we do not need to be defined by them. Take some time in the coming week to ask yourself how you experience the transforming presence of God in your life, and then give thanks.
Peace, David Hansen
