June 15, 2022
Sunday, June 19, is Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day. This day commemorates the emancipation of Black people in Texas on June 19, 1865, The Thirteenth Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865, ending the debate over, whether or not, slavery was legal in the United States.
Last Sunday many of us signed the Sandy Hook Promise. Copies of this promise and our signatures were sent to the Wichita Eagle, the Mayor, the School Board, the Governor, and to members of Congress. We will have a congregational meeting on the last Sunday of June, July, and August. This is a time for fellowship, receiving reports from our mission teams, and looking to the future. We will begin at 10:15 with a modified worship service and end our meeting no later than 11:30.
Sunday June 26, we will have our first summer congregational meeting. We will have a congregational meeting on the last Sunday of June, July, and August. This is a time for fellowship, receiving reports from our mission teams, and looking to the future. We will begin at 10:15 with a modified worship service and end our meeting no later than 11:30.
Our Worship, Art, and Music team has been meeting weekly. I do not anticipate we will meet this often in July. Those serving on this team agreed to serve through July 3. We are looking for members to join me and others to plan July services.
Our theme song for this summer might well be “Ours the Journey.” The first verse begins ” In the midst of new dimensions, in the face of changing ways, who will be the pilgrim peoples?” From the second verse: “Who will lift the olive branches, who will light the flame of care?” And the refrain: “God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar, we your people, ours the journey, now and ever more.”
Peace, David
