MESSAGE FROM OUR INTERIM PASTOR
Thanksgiving is our one national holiday traditionally observed by everyone. In 1941, Congress enacted a law designating the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day. It was actually President George Washington who proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving observance in 1789.
By tradition we associate Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and the American Indians sharing a common meal in 1621. It is a day to gather family and friends around the table. At PVCC, we will celebrate Thanksgiving on Sunday, November 18. Worship begins at 10:30 followed by a feast at 11 a.m.
On Thanksgiving Day, 17 members of our family and, by tradition a few friends, will come together to share a meal. But at 6 pm on Thanksgiving evening I will go to the Walmart store on Pawnee and Broadway to stand with the workers who are being denied the opportunity to observe this holiday because this company and others are expanding their hours of operation. Walmart workers in many cities across the country are walking off their jobs in protest. They are asking us to support them.
I invite you to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends and to stand with workers who are committed to reclaiming Black Friday – the busiest shopping day of the year.
