FROM OUR INTERIM PASTOR

October 6th is World Wide Communion Sunday. This Sunday we celebrate the unity of the global community of Christians and ecumenical cooperation. We will have a special celebration of the Presentation of Breads to mark this day.

CROP Walk is this Sunday. Carmen will again represent Pine Valley Christian Church in this walk to end hunger. Thank you! And, thanks to all who have pledged to support Carmen.

On Tuesday of this week we celebrated the life of our good friend Betty Alford. Judy Harrison was the pianist for the service and Tim Naden sang “Mary Did You Know.” My thanks goes to both of you for your participation in this service, and to Robin McGonigle for also sharing in the leadership of this service for our dear friend, and to all the members of the congregation who shared in this service. Betty was an important member of our community and we cherish her memory.  Natalie Sleeth’s hymn strikes me as fitting for this week: “In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. In our death, a resurrection, at the last a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see” (stanza 3, In the Bulb There Is a Flower).

Blessings, David
