When the ministry of PVCC was launched in 1966 members described the church as a “Gathered and Scattered” community. They said that they “Gathered to study and worship in order to be prepared to be the Scattered Presence in the world witnessing to the world about life revealed in Jesus Christ by Working for Justice for all people.” The objectives of the church were:
- To be a Creative Center in Christian Education for the sake of free and intelligent action in society.
- To be a Vital Center of Renewed Worship, developing more expressive art forms and symbols for celebrating the gift of life.
- To be an Active Center for Serving the Community, offering imaginative and helpful programs and providing useful facilities to other serving groups.
- To be a Dynamic Center for Influencing the Community, permeating the populous with awakened citizens who will work for justice for all.
These objectives and a record of PVCC’s past are in a document called “History, Theology and Traditions of Pine Valley Christian Church.” This church has an exciting and glorious history. During the season of Lent we will learn more about our church as we meet in house groups. I am looking forward to these sessions. I want to give special thanks to the Teaching, Wisdom and Knowledge Spirit Team and the Faith Sharing Spirit Team for giving leadership to make this experience possible, and especially to Amanda Martin and Muffin Overstreet for their good work on our behalf. I also want to thank Lorrie, Shirley and Dean Beck, and Muffin Overstreet and Gaye Clements for hosting these gatherings. We will meet Thursday evening at the Beck’s home and Saturday afternoon at the home of Gaye and Muffin. Please contact Muffin if you would like to participate but have not signed up yet. There is still time and your participation is important.
