DAVID’S DIARY … NOVEMBER NOTES

Let us all give a huge thank you to Harriett McGuire and her crew for the absolutely fantastic Thanksgiving Feast that we all enjoyed last Sunday. Four congregations gathered to sing, pray, eat and fellowship together. It was wonderful. In addition to being a terrific celebration, yesterday’s fellowship is an event we can and will build on in the future. Many helped in many ways. To one and to all, thank you.

Thanks, too, to Greg Yarnell, John Rogers, and all the people who stripped the sign in front of the church. We are ready for our new sign, which will be coming soon. In this season of thanksgiving, let’s say thank you to Muffin Overstreet and her team for their creative work and to Greg Sullivan, who donated his time and talent to help us create our new logo and signage.

The refugee committee had a successful meeting last week with representatives of IRC to follow up on the congregation’s desire to build closer ties with refugees in our area. There are a few details to be worked out, but I anticipate that we will be able to report on future plans before the end of the year. Good things are happening.

The Camp Sunflower steering committee is also making great progress. With plans for the 2018 camp well underway, the next steps will be forming a board of directors and getting incorporated.

There is a lesson we can take from the foregoing November Notes. Pine Valley Christian Church has many partners in this community, so let’s dream big when we think about our ministry with others in our community. While we continue to be involved in important and life-changing ministries like Operation Back Pack and the Lord’s Diner, we can also anticipate and plan new ministries made possible through creative partnerships. There is a wonderful verse in one of Paul’s letters where he says that creation is standing on the tiptoes of expectation waiting to see what God’s people will do next. What a joy to be alive in such a time as this. Happy Thanksgiving.

In friendship,
David
