Being God’s Love — District Assembly

South Central District Assembly will be Sunday, July 31, featuring speaker Dr. Mark Johnston, Executive Director of the Open & Affirming Ministry program at the GLAD Alliance. Before joining GLAD, Mark worked as a therapist with LGBT clients and their families for over 25 years.

Mark Johnston is an ordained Disciples minister with a Ph.D. in Pastoral Psychology. Before accepting the call to the Open & Affirming Ministry program, he worked as a therapist with LGBT clients and their families for over 25 years.  He is an avid sailor, cyclist, and scuba diver, and wannabe linguist.

Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. with opening & keynote beginning at 2 p.m.

Two, hour-long, workshop sessions will follow. Workshops are:

Session 1 – 2:45 p.m.

  •      What Does it Mean to Welcome our LGBT Neighbors             Presenter: Mark Johnston
  •      Understanding the Generations            Presenter: Rev. Steve Bridwell
  •      Being a faithful Elder or Deacon            Presenters: Bill Naden & Arkansas City Elders
  •      DOC at Work in the World          Come and go display area

Session 2 – 4 p.m.

  •      Understanding Our Muslim Neighbors           Presenter: Hussein Madi, Wichita Islamic Center
  •      Having Effective Pastoral Relations Committee            Presenter: Rev. Steve Bridwell
  •     Being a faithful Elder or Deacon             Presenters: Bill Naden & Arkansas City Elders
  •     DOC at Work in the World           Come and go display area

The pool will be open during both workshop sessions; lifeguards will be on duty.

Dinner will begin at 5:10 p.m. The district will provide chicken and Arkansas City Central Christian Church will bring corn. Bring a side dish to share.

No registrations fee for this event! An offering will be received with the first 10% going to the camp for capital improvements.
