Volunteer at the Lord’s Diner

Happy New Year from your Lord's Diner volunteer coordinator. Hopefully by the time you read this it will be warmer than when I'm writing it...brrrr.
We are scheduled to serve on the third Saturday of the even months. The 2010 Saturday nights (5pm-8pm) are:
Feb 20 | Apr 17 | Jun 19 | Aug 21 |
Oct 16 | Dec 18

For those of you who have not yet gotten to volunteer at the Lord's Diner (Central & Broadway), Our night to serve a hot meal to the needy (homeless, seniors, those with physical/mental disabilities, those with alcohol/drug abuse, and those for whom one meal a day helps to make ends meet, especially families, and those recently laid-off) is the third Saturday of the even months. You will need a current Food Handler's Card for most jobs there. The Sedgwick County Health Department offers 2-hour classes on Monday/Saturday of the first and third weeks of the month (confused yet?). There are also additional classes offered at some churches. Come join us for an enjoyable and up- lifting three hours of sharing hot meals and warm hearts with those who really need it.

For those "veterans", THANK YOU for your time, effort, and spirit of giving/sharing this last year. Although the number of nightly guests has dropped from nearly 600 in July to about 250 over the holidays, it is starting to pick up again. As gasoline prices rise so will our nightly guest count. Hopefully all of you and some new volunteers will join me this year.

Nov 13 at Riverwalk Church of Christ (First & Waco)
